Steps to Safety: International Women's Day Fundraiser Walk

Date: 6th March 2026

Meeting Point: Castlefield Bowl

Time: 9:30am-3pm

Ready to make your steps count? This International Women’s Day, join our Walk for Women, a feel‑good 15km walk from Manchester City Centre to Altrincham.

We chose this 15km walk to reflect the 1 woman killed by an abusive partner or ex every 5 days, a statistic that reminds us of all just how important literal life-saving services like Manchester Women’s Aid are.

All funds raised will go straight into helping us support women across the city helping to fund our weekly community drop-ins, specialist services, important wellbeing trips or in refuge, it all matters!

Spend the day surrounded by uplifting energy and play a part in supporting women as they take their first step to safety.

about the walk

The walk is of mixed-terrain with some parts of the walk having a cobbled surface, paved surface, paving stones, gravel, asphalt and compacted pathways.

The difficult is rated as medium requiring moderate fitness level and an ability to endure some uphill sections of the walk.

The walk is canalside so some parts of the walk may be more narrow than others.

We will have a trained First Aider with us on the walk but if you have any concerns or medical issues please do share these with us if it could impact you on the walk.

We recommend wearing comfortable walking boots for the walk, appropriate clothing that you will feel comfortable in, and a jacket.
